Why Is a Proxy Service Needed?

When a Myanmar national submits a marriage registration in Japan, a "Single Status Certificate" is required instead of a Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage.

However, Myanmar's Single Status Certificate cannot be obtained at the Embassy of Myanmar in Japan. It can only be issued in Myanmar, which presents a significant challenge for Myanmar nationals living in Japan.

In particular, if you do not have relatives in Myanmar, or if you have relatives but cannot contact them, you would need to travel to Myanmar in person, stay for several days, and engage a notary lawyer — making it an extremely difficult process.

Our office works with a partner attorney in Myanmar to provide a proxy service for obtaining the Single Status Certificate. This allows you to obtain the certificate while staying in Japan, saving you the time and expense of traveling to Myanmar.

Information We Will Need

To proceed smoothly, please prepare the following information if possible.

• Full names of both parties (Japanese and Myanmar)
• Email address
• Photos of the Myanmar spouse's ID card (National Registration Card)
• Photos of the Myanmar spouse's passport
• Photos of the Family List
• Photos of the Myanmar spouse's parents' ID cards
• Delivery address for documents
• A photo of the couple together
• Brief background of how you met

This information is needed for the procedures in Myanmar. You do not need to have everything ready at the time of inquiry.

Processing Time

Obtaining the Single Status Certificate typically takes approximately 3 weeks to 1 month. The timeline may vary depending on conditions in Myanmar, so please plan accordingly.

Deliverables

Upon completion, we will deliver the following documents.

• Single Status Certificate (original in Burmese)
• Japanese translation of the Single Status Certificate
• Japanese translation of the Family List
• Japanese translation of the passport

The Japanese translations are prepared in a format that can be directly used when submitting the marriage registration at a municipal office.

Pricing

The fees for our proxy service are as follows.

• Retainer fee: 40,000 yen (tax included)
• Success fee: 40,000 yen (tax included)

The retainer fee is paid when you engage our services. The success fee is paid upon successful acquisition of the certificate. If the certificate cannot be obtained, no success fee is charged.

Payment Method

Payment is made by bank transfer.
